Wide Wheelchair
Tuesday, May 31st, 2011What can or should be done to prepare for a visitor in a wheelchair in your home?
I have a group of people at home to an upcoming event. One of my clients is in a wheelchair. It makes me take note of my doorways to the bathroom and inputs / outputs. I few openings that are 27 inches. I do not even know if it is large enough. I'm sure it does not expect me to welcome and may not even be appropriate. Any advice?
A yard stick. any opening should be three feet wide for wheelchair acccess. However, you do not really need to go cut the walls. Make sure there is clear and visible 3 trails in all areas of your home and inform your guests prior their arrival as the doors of the bathroom are a bit small. They can make arrangements as providing a cane or a walker - or a friend for help if need.
