Thursday, September 8th, 2011Is it possible to use energy from solar or nuclear to make something that would equal exportable energy?
There are problems with solar/nuclear. You could put vast solar collectors in deserts, but the power lost in transmission via high voltage lines over distances to markets would defeat the purpose. With nuclear once again, you can make vast amounts of power, but it would involve each country aquiring the means to make nuclear bombs. If it was possible to use the energy from these sources to manufacture some type of transportable energy (eg compressed air drums, or oil??) the product could be made near the site of the solar/nuclear plant, and the resultant product shipped direct to where it is needed.
What type of product could be made using energy, converted to 'something' and reconverted to energy at the other end?
Sure, Create electricity from the solar. Then you can separate hydrogen from water and export the H2.
