My friend had to stay in the hospital for several days and the charges were outrageous. They were charged eight dollars for a plastic water pitcher and thirty dollars for an egg cushion bed pad are the two items of many that I remember. This was a non-profit hospital and the two items totaling thirty eight dollars probably cost no more than four dollars wholesale.
Do the services to illegal aliens cause health care costs to legal aliens and citizens to be higher or lower?
There are several factors. First we have by far the most advanced health care in history. This is a great blessing, but we do have to pay for all of the advanced technology and medicines required. Second, trial lawyers are out of control trying to find any tiny thing to sue over. This causes massive malpractice insurance costs and causes doctors to practice "defensive medicine" which means ordering many unnecessary tests and procedures just to protect themselves from lawsuits. A few laesuits are justified, but the vast majority are files by unethical trial laweyers who recruit greedy patients as clients. The third are irresponsible people who refuse to pay their bills and expect society to pay their bills for them.
