How to focus when taking full body shots on selftimer?

I have a Sony a350 and I've been trying to take full body shots using the self timer, but when it takes the picture it will only focus on the backround leaving me blurry. I've tried focusing the camera on me and then backing up, but it still doesn't work and I can't find anything in the manual about this!

The best way to do this is to switch to manual focus and adjust the focus to something placed at the spot where your head (or whatever else you want to focus on) will be. On the A350 there is a switch to change from AF (Auto Focus) to MF (Manual Focus) just below the lens release button location. This is on the lower right front side of the camera when you hold it with the lens facing you.
