Can I take the forward controls from a 2000 v star custom and put them on an '01 v star classic?

I am looking at buying forward controls for my v star classic and I need to know if I can take the stock forward controls from a custom and put them on my classic. The brackets look to be interchangeable, but before I buy the new forward controls I would like to know if they fit! Let me know what you think before I waste $100...
