Metal Tube Aquarium Stands sturdy enough? Penn Plax?

I am upgrading to a 55 gallon. I am looking at this

http://www.amazon.com/Aquarium-Metal-Deluxe-gallon-Aquarium-TS55/dp/B0002DIUVQ

"Knock-down design for quick easy assembly" "Extremely sturdy and durable". Yeah sure. A knock down design to hold a 650+lb aquarium.. I have my doubts.

So is there anyone out there with one of these who can say it is or isn't a good idea?

I have seen some at local pet stores and they look like they aren't collapsible, made out of iron I think. Would those be any better?

Also, how much do these add to the dimensions? An inch? 2?

They are strong enough.
Most aquarium stands, especially the ones amateurs like me build, are way over-engineered. I think the first one I built could probably support a whole house.

Anyhow, Penn-Plax sells a lot of these iron stands, and I've never heard of one having a structural failure, as long as it was assembled according to the directions. Angle iron, which is the material here, is really very strong, especially in the lengthwise direction.

The stand in question won't add more than an inch, at most, in the length and width dimensions of the 55-gallon tank. Since the stand is 29 inches high, it adds (obviously) 29 inches to the height of the tank. I prefer a slightly taller stand, but about 29 to 31 inches is average height for commercial aquarium stands.
